H. John Cooper, MD
H. John Cooper, MD, is an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center and practices at New York Presbyterian Hospital, a world-renowned academic medical center in New York City, NY. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with advanced fellowship specialty training in adult reconstructive orthopedic surgery, focusing on primary, complex, and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. Prior to joining Columbia in January 2017, Dr. Cooper was a private practice orthopedic surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital, also in New York City, where he also served as the Director of Clinical Research for their department of orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Cooper is a widely-published, well-respected authority in his field who is regularly invited to speak at national and international orthopedic meetings. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), the American Orthopedic Association’s Emerging Leader’s Forum (AOA ELF), and was honored with a lifetime membership to the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty (ISTA). He has won numerous awards for his work from the Knee Society, AAOS, ISTA, and AOA. Dr Cooper, originally from South Carolina, graduated summa cum laude from Duke University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and a second major in Biological Anthropology and Anatomy. He completed his medical education in New York at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and his orthopedic residency at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr Cooper completed his fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
